I approach interior design as both a creative and strategic discipline. Thoughtful interiors are not only beautiful; they are the result of clear decisions, careful coordination, and a well-defined design process.

Rachel Balan Design specializes in full-scope residential projects, with a primary focus on custom new builds and select comprehensive renovations. I work closely with homeowners from the early planning stages through construction, leading the interior design vision and translating lifestyle goals into cohesive, well-resolved spaces.

My process is rooted in understanding how my clients live day to day. How spaces are used, how decisions are made, and what matters long term all inform the work. This clarity allows me to design interiors that are functional, intentional, and tailored, while supporting the technical and logistical demands of complex residential projects.

My Story
WHERE IT ALL STARTED
At eighteen, I spent a year traveling across Europe. While the architecture and culture were influential, the moment that shaped my path in interior design happened closer to home.

During that year, my parents renovated my childhood house. When I returned, the transformation was striking. After walking me through the space, my mother said, “This is the first time in over twenty years that I feel like I’m home.”
​
That moment revealed how profoundly a well-considered interior can support the people who live in it. With guidance at the right stage, decisions around layout, materials, and finishes can completely change how a home functions and feels.
​
This experience is also why I am drawn to custom new builds. Beginning at the planning stage allows the interior design to inform the floor plan itself, rather than adapting around decisions that have already been made. Starting from the ground up creates clarity, reduces compromise, and results in homes that feel intentional and built to last.
